Mission
Statement
As first responders to
fires, public safety and medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, the
Wixom Fire Department protects the lives and property of Wixom residents and
visitors. The Department advances public safety through its fire prevention,
investigation and education programs. The timely delivery of these services
enables the Wixom Fire Department to make significant contributions to the
safety of the City of Wixom and homeland security efforts.
We save lives
and protect property through Training, Preparation, Fire Prevention, Education,
Code Enforcement, and Emergency Response.

Organization and Staffing
The Wixom Fire
Department is staffed by a Public Safety Director, Administrative Assistant,
four part-time State Certified Fire Inspectors, and 29 paid on-call
firefighters.
The Department
responds to an average of 1,000 emergency calls a year within the 10-mile square
area of the city. All Paid-on-Call firefighters go through two years of training
to become state certified firefighters/emergency medical technicians. The
firefighters also receive training in Specialty Rescue such as Trench Rescue and
Confined Space and the department has three Haz-Mat Technicians on staff.
The Wixom Fire
Department responds to a variety of emergency calls including fires, medical
emergencies, car accidents, downed wires, odor investigations (natural
gas/carbon monoxide), and hazardous material spills and responds to calls for
assistance to 6 nearby communities.
The two fire
stations contain 12 vehicles including: two engines, two medics, two grass fire
trucks, one heavy rescue, one tanker, three utility vehicles and a mobile air
trailer. The fire department also houses the Lakes Area Forensic Crime Scene
Investigation vehicle and the new Wixom Public Safety Emergency Response truck.
